While a few years back, no one looking for a decent phone would have even considered Micromax an option (hey, we’re just being honest here), the company has moved well past that phase. Just to prove it, Micromax today announced that it has sold just over 1 million units of Canvas series smartphones. To top it, it only took Micromax 7 months to achieve this feat.
The first phone in the Canvas series- Canvas A100 was launched last year in August. However, the series got recognition with the launch of A110 Canvas 2, which was one of the first 5 inch phone around Rs 10,000 that sported a dual core processor. The sequel to that, Canvas HD was again well received by public, with the company managing to sell some 9000 units on the first day alone. Since then, we’ve seen Canvas HD go out of stock time and again due to the huge demand. A72 Canvas Viva is another budget offering in the Canvas series.
Though Micromax didn’t break down individual sales for the phones, it isn’t hard to realize that Canvas 2 and Canvas HD share a major chunk of those sales among themselves. We already know that Micromax plans to further milk the series with two imminent launches in the future. The first of these is the Canvas 3D A115, which is expected to be announced in May and comes with a 3D display. The second phone is dubbed as A111, which will have features like 5.3 inch display and super sensitive touch.
While a million is surely a strong number for the company, we hope it doesn’t forget that Ericsson is keeping an eye on every unit that the company ships.
