A lot of people have never heard about this rather shy product from BSNL, which in turn hasn’t done much in terms of publicity to advertise this product. Anyways BSNL EVDO is CDMA based wireless data service that works through a data card (the same technology that is used in TATA Photon, Netconnect, Mblaze). It can offer speeds of upto 2.4 mbps. If that hasn’t got you excited enough a look at the tariffs surely will.

And yes by unlimited we mean truly unlimited. No FUP (fair usage policy) at all. Those prices are way cheaper than any other wireless internet service presently available in the market( even BSNL’s own 3G tariffs). The preaid tariffs are priced similarly with only a little difference.

The data card will set you back by Rs 1199. Not too expensive compared to the competitors in my opinion. You can also rent the device for a monthly rent of Rs 200. However you will have to deposit a security fee of Rs 1000 before. So that makes buying the device a better option.

The only downside to EVDO is the limited network coverage. BSNL’s CDMA network isn’t as vast the GSM one and chances are that you might end up in an area without EVDO network and be stuck with CDMA 1x with rather poor speeds of 144kbps. However you can always visit a customer care center and ask good people over there to give a demo of the device. They take some security fees and lease you the device so that you can make sure your area has the EVDO coverage. Once you return the device entire deposit will be returned.
