What is more powerful than S4 Pro and can be expected to be seen in millions of smartphones in the coming months? A more powerful Snapdragon ofcourse. And this time it won’t be called S5 but Snapdragon 600 and 800.
First up, Snapdragon 600 comes with two never heard of before Krait 300 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz. The GPU is the same as S4 Pro, Adreno 320 but clocked higher. The SoC will also feature LP-DDR3 memory at 800 MHz.
The Snapdragon 800 on the other hand will lead the attack against the likes of Exynos and Tegra 4. Qualcomm claims a 75 performance improvement over S4 Pro (which is a power house itself). The SoC will pack four Krait 400 cores clocked at an astounding 2.3 GHz along with Adreno 330 which is said to be 50% faster than Adreno 320. The SoC will be able to encode/decode 4K video at 30fps and handle 2K video at 60fps.
The 800 will be out by middle of the year while the 600 will be out as early as Q2. We can’t wait to get our hands on some benchmark scores and see how the chips compare against Tegra 4 and Exynos.
The Snapdragon 200 and 400 will also be announced sometime in the future and will be aimed at lower end of the market.
