We’ll have to give it to the Indian manufacturers. Last six months have seen many of them roll out software updates for their older hardware, even when some of the bigger names (ahem, HTC) have clearly failed to do so. In another such story, Micromax today started rolling out the Android 4.2.1 update for its flagship A116 Canvas HD. The phone previously ran on version 4.1.2.
Unfortunately, in order to get the update, you’ll have to visit a Micromax service center, since over-the-air option isn’t available. However, Micromax has stated that it has enabled the OTA feature with this software update and it shouldn’t be that troublesome the next time the phone gets an update (that should be probably Android 4.3 or 5.0).
As for the update, it fixes the delay in GPS lock on delay and brings in panorama shot feature in camera app. Also, features like quick toggle to notification panel and offline voice typing have been added.
The update definitely makes the phone more attractive than it ever was and also gives it a leading edge over the competition. We say, keep up the good work, and these companies might start giving the biggies a run for their money soon enough.
