After having completed the checklist in the specs department, it seems the next big thing for smartphones is curved displays. And before anyone else, Samsung has become the first vendor to carve out a phone with such display. Meet Samsung Galaxy Round, the world’s first smartphone with curved display.
The phone comes with a 5.7 inch 1080p Super AMOLED flexible display. It is powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 2,800mAh battery. The camera department is handled by a 13MP rear snapper and a 2 megapixel front camera unit. Overall, the device measures 151.1 ⅹ 79.6 ⅹ 7.9mm and at 154g, it is considerably lighter than the Note III.
On the software front, the phone comes with Android 4.3 onboard layered with TouchWIz UI on top. Oh, and to utilize the curved display, Samsung has added a couple of software tricks as well. Tilting the phone to the side brings up notifications, battery level and more. While tapping on the sides controls the volume levels using Bounce UX.
The phone goes for sale in Korea tomorrow for a price of $1,015, which makes its one of Samsung’s most expensive smartphones till date. It will be made available in Luxury Brown, with more colors to follow soon.
